Chalk Paint Attempt #1

In my previous posting I mentioned my second chalk paint attempt.  Today I will talk about my first attempt.

The lumber in the gate to our fence was so old it was rotting away.  I removed the gate and tried to salvage as much lumber as I could.  Most of it had to be thrown away as the pieces fell apart while I was pulling the nails.

My wife suggested that I make a frame out of the usable pieces to hang the old rusty iron metal gate she's been wanting to attach to our fence.  In the picture you will see the pieces of our gate lumber nailed together in a frame.  I roughed up the old painted finished and the applied a coat of white chalk paint.  Next I rough up the painted finish again to give it a distressed look.  Next I removed the surface dust and applied the wax coat.  Then I attached the rusty metal gate to the board with wire.

I think it turned out very well.  It's funny how one can change a piece of little value into something that people want to purchase.  No, it is not for sale as I think it adds beauty to our patio area.

Please feel free to share your thoughts or comments.

Why Chalk Paint Your Furniture!

Have you ever tried Chalk Painting? One day I purchased an old chest of drawers from GoodWill for about $20. The chest was functional but ugly and looked cheap. I decided to repaint the chest using Chalk paint, which was my second attempt to use Chalk Paint. I'll show you my first attempt in another post.

The first coat was done in white using Annie Sloan's Chalk paint. I then rubbed on clear wax, but was not happy with the look. I sanded the chest to remove the wax and then painted over the white with the gray chalk paint called old barn. I painted the gray on solid and then let it dry. I then rough the gray with sand paper to give it that distressed look. I left the metal pulls white for contrast.

I must say that I am rather pleased with the way the chalk paint changed the look of the chest from a cheap piece of furniture to a classic looking piece of furniture.  The value of the piece skyrocketed in value.

Please feel free to share your chalk painting stories.

The Wedding Bench

Below you will find a picture of a wedding bench that I received via text message. The sender found the picture below on Pinterest and she asked me if I would consider building a similar bench for her wedding.

I think it's a pretty cool idea to have your wedding party and guests sign your bench and then seal it for a lifetime of memories.

Do you think I can do it?  Well, I will give it a try and then post the pictures after I finish it.   I would love to hear from you as to what you think the sales price of the bench below should be.

I can custom design to your specific size and design.

This design is unfinished therefore allowing you to stain or paint to your specific decor.

Hardwood End Table

These rustic hardwood tables are made from reclaimed pallet lumber.   The size of the design shown here is 20" x 20" and 25" high.

My Son-In-Law made two of these tables for my wife.  We use these tables at both ends of our sectional.

40" High Potting Bench

This potting bench is 48" long, 24"deep, and 40" high (not counting the attached back) [overall height is approx. 52"].  This design is different than the other potting benches as the bottom deck boards are running front to back instead of side-to-side.

This design was created in order to make easier to slide semi-heavy items on the lower deck therefore preventing snagging when crossing deck boards that are running side-to-side.

I can design your potting bench to your specs which allows you the option of deciding how you want your deck boards to be positioned.

Notice in the picture there is a medium size Weber bar-b-que grill stored on the bottom deck boards.  The grill is light enough to be lifted to the top deck for cooking.  As you can see the potting bench has multiple applications.

This bench is 40" high and if you prefer a shorter height I can design your bench to your specs.

Your Price: $75.00

One of my customer's stained her bench as shown below:
